Spearheaded by artists Librarian, Strip Steve, and Straydogpalace, the burgeoning imprint Waxtefacts is one that caught XLR8R’s attention from its inception. The squad’s debut release/compilation, WXTFX001, is a four-track EP that possesses great variety and an unrivaled style. From Librarian’s repetitive, lo-fi, and fresh reworks of Gang Star’s “Mass Appeal” and Souls of Mischief’s “93 ’til Infinity” to Strip Steve’s wandering and contemplative “Last One and I’m Out,” the label’s debut is an absolute win. The vinyl-only release sold-out extremely fast, setting the stage for what was bound to be an enticing follow-up.

Today, Waxtefacts released WXTFX002, featuring Strip Steve, Interstate, DJ Storch, and Real D. Interstate and Real D’s contribution to the EP’s A-side consist of the two sweltering, jazzy, and hard-hitting tracks “Vanice Beach” and “Rhodes That,” while Strip Steve and DJ Storch’s offerings on the opposite end present more of a hollow, lo-fi aura that creates a far off, dance-inducing vibe. Waxtefacts has kindly offered up the EP cut “Rhodes That” as an exclusive here on XLR8R and we are pleased to be hosting for these hard working fellas. You can stream the track in full below.
