PARA (also PΛRΛ or P4R4) is an audio-visual creative project that came to life in 2018. It is mainly focused on musical experimentation rooted in various genres of dancefloor-oriented electronics. Early releases on labels $upra and Xenonyms clearly derive from dubstep and trap aesthetics and structure but in a rather minimalistic and deconstructive manner. The raw and generic sound along with unconventional sample selection creates an atmosphere reminiscent of early industrial techno parties held in smoke filled basements and warehouses rather than big crowds and open air festivals. Early singles were directly followed by a series of dj mixes recorded for Sub FM, Jerome Worldwide and Shanghai Community Radio to name a few. It is only through the act of djing that the idea behind the project, it’s personality, inspiration and intention could be fully expressed. The mixes were delivered as a wild and surprising blend of everything from energetic punk rock and jungle to dark mantras of Demdike Stare and deconstructed club music. IDM structures were seamlessly attached to trap bangers and topped with eerie techno soundscapes only to erupt into rabid breakcore madness. These mixes left people confused, puzzled and in a few documented cases quite thoroughly entertained. So far the project has been operating from China and Philippines but according to available information it’s origins can be traced to the former Eastern Bloc. A lot of recent works have been released through and supported by Internetghetto, a Russian media outlet affiliated with Hyperboloid Records and aimed at scouting fresh, undiscovered talent in the field of experimental electronic music.
Barangay 313 was written during community quarantine in district 313 (barangay 313) of the City Of Manila. Featured as Internetghetto premiere, it is a part of XENO I EP released by Xenonyms in May 2020.
