Originating from the San Francisco Bay Area and currently residing in southern Ireland, Bass Bin Laden a.k.a Vincent Yip began his music career in 1988 as ‘Binnie’, a DJ in his early teens and a member of various dj crews around the bay area who earned their stripes playing at night clubs and dance parties from the suburbs of Modesto to the grimy streets of the Tenderloin. Binnie’s DJ skills along with his passion for seeking out new music lead to him getting tapped several times by XLR8R for his personal top 10. He consistently worked the decks at Housewares on Haight St. and eventually became a member of the Funky Tekno Tribe crew in the mid 90’s. By 1998 Binnie had founded ‘5lowershop’: an underground music and arts collective known for their focus on an eclectic range of electronic sounds and radical community-focused events centered around a warehouse on the edge of SF. Relocating to Europe in 2007 provided Binnie with the opportunity to focus more on soundsystems, audio engineering and music production. The album ‘Explorations In Modular Synthesis I’ is his first self-produced music release.
