Michael Donoghue is a Rotherham born, Jersey based independent electronic artist, composing left-field electronica which draws in influences from several genres, including ambient electro, downtempo, techno, and IDM.
Michael started to compose in 2017, releasing several singles and EP’s under the pseudonym of Cosmosapien. In the summer of 2020, Michael stepped out from the shadows of his alter ego, and started releasing music under his own name. Since then he’s released several singles singles, an EP, and his debut album, finding himself on the radar of several independent radio shows, blogs, reviewers, and playlist curators.
Several of Michael’s tracks have been supported by BBC Music Introducing in the Channel Islands, and have also featured on many independent radio shows including Trust The Doc Radio, Supernova, In The Moog, and many more. In December 2020 his single “Mummy” was voted onto the Fresh Faves on Fresh On The Net, which had been a long term goal.
Michael kicked off 2021 with the release of groovy techno banger “Altitude”. He released his debut EP “Night Thoughts” in April, a four-track collection of industrial, ambient, and minimal electro. Around the time of the “Night Thoughts” release, Michael was invited onto BBC Music Introducing to create a mini-mix, which featured his own releases and a handful of artists that have inspired his style.
In September 2021, Michael put out his debut album “Landing”. Several reviews picked up on his inspirations of the cosmos, calling it “a small book for astral travel”, and stating “the artist brings you into an experience out of Earth”.
October 2021 was a strong month for Michael, with the radio version of “Aequorea IV” making the Fresh On The Net “Fresh Faves”, as well as being selected for the XLR8R October Roundup Playlist.
2022 kicked off in the perfect way when “Overview Effect” was selected by Jaguar for an ambient, chill-out special of the BBC Music Introducing Dance Show on Radio 1.
