Two weeks ago it was announced that Australian producers Lucianblomkamp and Seekae‘s John Hassel would be teaming up to form Brutalist, a collaborative project that will release its debut mixtape via Good Manners on August 26.
The pair met at a show in 2015 and subsequently started sharing musical ideas via correspondence when Hassel returned to his UK base. Meeting again in Melbourne—using a range of instruments including a Korg Poly 800, MPC1000, Piano, and Violin, as well as various music software—the pair completed the Brutalist mixtape, a thoughtfully conceived piece of ever evolving, textured music. It’s introspective, powerful, and beautifully melancholic—a perfect amalgamation of both artist’s strengths.
With the mixtape dropping later in August, Brutalist and Good Manners have shared with XLR8R the first taste of the project in “Strep.” Driven by floating atmospherics, melody, and hard-hitting beats, “Strep” is music to drift away to and can be downloaded in full via the WeTransfer button below.
