Premeire: Stream José Padilla’s New 12″ for International Feel
Hear the veteran DJ/producer's breezy new single, complete with a remix from Telephones.
A master of the Balearic style, longtime DJ—and the man behind the classic Café del Mar compilation series—José Padilla will return to Ibiza’s International Feel label with a new single next week, “Day One.” Following behind his exceptional Solito EP for Mark Barrott’s imprint last year, “Day One” is said to be the first single pulled from a clutch of new material which will eventually see a release as a full-length LP in the months ahead, and serving as Padilla’s first album in over 15 years.
Fitting well within the José Padilla cannon, “Day One” brims with sunset vibes, its percussive four-on-the-floor trot bathed in lush strings, blue-streaked marimbas, and airy melodic flairs. On the record’s flipside, Norwegian talent Telephones (who was also brought in to work on Padilla’s upcoming album alongside Barrott and Australian producer Tornado Wallace) gives “Day One” a more club-ready rework, thickening up the tune’s kicks and bringing its bouncing marimbas further to life while sneaking in a few more layers of squiggly synth work down below.
Both Padilla’s original version of “Day One” and Telephones’ equally enticing remix can be streamed in full below before the Day One 12″ drops on March 23; Padilla’s forthcoming So Many Colours LP is expected to arrive via the International Feel label in June.
