Produced by Native Instruments, a new documentary profiles a number of artists and scenes making waves along Colombia’s Caribbean coastline. Appropriately titled Sabroso! A Road Trip to Colombia’s Caribbean Coast, the 20-plus minute film—which is directed by Luis Antonio Delgado—follows Mauricio Alvarez (of Colombia’s Cero39 trio) as he makes his way from the country’s capital of Bogotá north to the cities of Barranquilla and Cartegena in order to examine each city’s dance music traditions. In Barranquilla, Alvarez meets with a number of players of the city’s Picó (a.k.a. soundsystem) culture as well as local producer/DJ/MC Alo Ratista; in Cartegena, he catches up with DJ Dever to discuss the city’s more electronic-oriented sounds and parties.
