After teasing the unit last month, Native Instruments has today fully unveiled the Kontrol S8, a “flagship all-in-one Traktor” controller set to hit stores later this month.
The Kontrol S8 is built around a standalone four-channel mixer, which is in integrated into the unit’s 24-bit/48kHz audio interface. Furthermore, the Kontrol S8 boasts “full color displays and touch-sensitive hardware controls” as well as “increased hands-on editing functions.” The aim of the new controller appears to be on significantly lessening Traktor DJs’ dependence on computers, with the unit’s press release stating that the Kontrol S8 was “built on the desire to bring the sole focus of digital DJs back towards the crowd and away from the laptop.” To that effect, the unit gives users an array of knobs and buttons which can be used to manipulate and edit tracks live with real-time controls and FX.
The Kontrol S8 is slated to hit stores on October 30, retailing for $1299/1199 €. In the meantime, the controller/mixer can be seen in action in the demo video below, while its full list of specs and functions can be perused here.
