Throughout the week, a whole lot of material gets posted here on XLR8R. And while we know—and love—that some hardcore readers will eagerly pour over every single news story, interview, podcast, video, and MP3 download that appears on the site, we also realize that for most people, it’s impossible to see everything, which means that some quality XLR8R content is likely to get missed in the hustle and bustle of everyone’s daily lives. In the interest of making it easier for everyone to catch up, every Friday we present The Lowdown, a weekly wrap-up of the top 10 tidbits from our site.
1. All week long, XLR8R has been exclusively streamingimagin, the debut LP from UK trio Dark Sky. The album is being released today via Modeselektor’s Monkeytown imprint.
2. The latest XLR8R podcast was put together by veteran UK duo Basement Jaxx, who released a new LP, Junto, this week.
3. Last weekend, LA beatmaker Flying Lotus (pictured above) debuted the first single from his forthcoming new LP, You’re Dead!.
4. Pop oddball Grimes shared a slick new video for “Go,” her self-described “summer jam” that she originally wrote for Rihanna.
5. We checked out this year’s Berlin Atonal festival, and our official review described how the venue stole the spotlight. We also catalogued our five favorite moments from the festivities.
6. DJ Koze announced the impending release of Reincarnations 2, a collection of remixes that includes his reworks of Caribou, Modeselektor, Herbert, Apparat, and others.
7. Japanese producer Daisuke Tanabe offered up “Origami” as a free giveaway for our Downloads section, and the off-kilter tune turned out to be the most popular track of the week.
8. Skream shared a new track online; entitled “Let It Go,” the song found the UK veteran exploring a more subdued sound.
9. UK producer Om Unit was at the helm of the latest edition of our Ask the Experts series, which found him providing some thoughtful answers to our readers’ production-related queries.
