Detroit techno pioneer Jeff Mills and French director Jacqueline Caux have collaborated on a new film which will have screenings in select European and North American cities next month. Entitled Man from Tomorrow, the 45-minute quasi-documentary is said to “extend the boundaries of the traditional filmic portrait through a non-narrative approach, combining aesthetically unconventional images and Mills’ unreleased original music for the soundtrack.” Furthermore, Man from Tomorrow incorporates voice-over excerpts in which Mills talks “about the topics that inspire him when he composes music, such as his preoccupation with the future of mankind and his interest in both space and time travel.”
As Resident Advisor points out, Mills’ and Caux’s collaborative film will officially premiere at the Louvre in Paris on February 2, with an additional screening accompanied by a talk with the director and Mills in Berlin on February 19. On the stateside front, Man from Tomorrow will be screened at New York’s Studio Museum in Harlem on February 12, where both Mills and Caux will also give a talk following the film. More info on the movie’s NYC screening can be found here, and the project’s theatrical poster is included below.
