London-based DJ and producer Champion, who we happened to name as one of our Best New Artists of 2012, will release his first offering of 2013 at the end of April. The new 12″ is called “Hydra Island” b/w “Prince Jammy” and follows his “Crystal Meth” release on grime label Butterz—not to mention his XLR8Rpodcast—from last year. Both tunes have been staples of his DJ sets, and continue to find him fleshing out funky rhythms with muscular grime flourishes. It’s not exactly clear why “Hydra Island” b/w “Prince Jammy” is being issued as a white label, but the record will drop through Champion’s own Formula Records on April 27; a full preview can be found below.
