XLR8R was right in the thick of last week’s SXSW mayhem, and although we certainly did our share of partying, networking, eating, and drinking, we also made sure to throw a couple of parties of our own. On Friday, March 16, we teamed up with the Icee Hot gang for a showcase at Barcelona, a dark and grimy basement venue with a huge soundsystem that is unquestionably one of the best places to experience electronic music in Austin. Over the course of the evening, we heard Bicep, South London Ordnance, Nautiluss, Ghosts on Tape, Grown Folk, Low Limit, DJ Haus, and Shawn Reynaldo (our editor and one of Icee Hot’s founders and residents) all deliver quality sets of upfront house, techno, garage, and bass to a packed room. The vibe was great all night, something which hopefully shines through in these photos.
