Long-running Canadian music festival MUTEK will return for its 14th year this May, and has teased that auspicious occasion today by unveiling the first wave of artists set to grace the nearly week-long Montreal event. Veteran artist Matthew Herbert (pictured above) will offer three performances: a DJ set as Wishmountain, a unique live performance of the controversial One Pig album, and an improvisational piece based on a 10-second recording taped by a photojournalist in Libya during its civil war. Cologne-based label Kompakt will be celebrating its 20th anniversary at MUTEK with a set by label co-head Michael Mayer (and perhaps a few surprises, too). Other artists announced to perform between May 29 and June 2 are Detroit techno icon Robert Hood, 3024 boss Martyn, John Talabot (the man behind our favorite release of 2012), dub-techno experimentalist Andy Stott, Juju & Jordash, French electro-funk lover Onra, Jamie Lidell, and others. Early bird tickets for MUTEK 2013 are available here, and you can peep the rest of the festival’s prelimiary lineup here.
