After teasing the product a few weeks back, Native Instruments has officially shared the details surrounding its latest piece of equipment, a “2+2 channel control mixer” deemed the Kontrol Z2.

The mixer/controller can be used as a stand-alone unit—accepting two channels each of phono and line input, housing XLR and RCA master outputs as well as ¼” booth outputs, and even serving as a USB hub to power additional external controllers—but it is intended for use with NI’s Traktor software in order to allow for full use of the Z2’s features, which aim to balance traditional mixer options with enhanced software control. As to be expected, the essential aspects of Traktor are all mapped to various sections of the unit, making for easy access to file browsing, cue points, and functions like sync and quantize. Furthermore, a series of newly developed effects, which are said to cater specifically to DJ sets, are included with the Z2 package.

This controller/mixer hybrid is available to pre-order now for the serious price of $899 (which includes the latest edition of Traktor), and will hit stores as early as November 1.
