If you’ll remember back to late May of this year, we reviewed a record called VOLFE by Pit er Pat co-founder Butchy Fuego (a.k.a. San Gabriel), and we quite liked it. Something about the producer’s so-called “mountain rave” tunes struck a chord with us, and we’ve been following his subsequent output ever since. Fuego’s latest offering arrives today not from his usual label, Time No Place, but as a four-track EP that you can download for absolutely free. Appropriately called Sept/Ember, San Gabriel’s digital release finds him working in similar territory—complete with punchy dance rhythms, neon-hued synth tones, spacey soundscapes, and subtle splashes of new age and world music kitsch.
