With spring and summer just around the corner, it’s time to break out the white sneakers. These are my choices for the coming months…
First, we have the white Vans Authentics (pictured above). As Vans is a California company, I only see it fit to pair these with a mid-August trip to San Francisco and a La Taqueria burrito.
Second, we have the white Victoria. I’ll be pairing these Spanish plimsolls with Sonar at the end of May. The sangria will be flowing freely, and by June 1, I expect these beauties to be stained purple.
Third, we have the Spring Court. A French classic I plan to couple with the Cannes Film Festival and a hot date with Laetitia Casta in early May.
Fourth, we have the Superga (a.k.a. “The People’s Shoe of Italy”). I plan to march these with a Ferrari and a speeding ticket when I visit Italy in June. When in Rome!
And, lastly, we have the optic white Converse Chuck Taylors. These will be paired with the couch I wake up on and the realization that the La Taqueria burrito, sangria, hot date with Laetitia Casta, and Ferrari were all just a dream. Alas, it’s 10 a.m., mid-August, 90 degrees out, and I’m 28 years old and still waking up on random couches.
Dosh wallets
My George Costanza wallet really got the better of me last summer. At 28, my back was acting 82. Since then I’ve grown to realize that the slim wallet is where it’s at. No need to carry around the 9 million business cards you were handed over shots of Jameson at 3 a.m. Only room for the basics—ID, credit card, debit card, NRA membership. This streamlined, six-card bi-fold wallet is an ideal solution for those tired of carrying a brick in their back pocket. Made from a highly durable, water-resistant polymer, the Dosh Street wallet is also perfect for anybody that might put their wallet through the washing machine, drop it in the toilet, or fall into a river fully clothed. It’s good to know that I can finally replace this Kangaroo leather billfold I’ve been living in fear of water damaging for the past six months.
Oakley Frogskins
I’d like to tell you that I was at home revisiting Swann’s Way last night, but, in all honesty, I was eating Oreos in bed, surfing the net, and watching Ski Patrol. A lot of bold fashion choices were made in this masterpiece, but the one that stuck out was the abundance of Oakley Frogskins. I really love these sunglasses. Yes, they sort of scream “’80s party boy,” but you should be fine as long as you don’t wear them with a neon green snow suit. The colors are always great, but they sell out fast so grab a pair while you can.
Huf Plantlife Socks
My mom always gives my girlfriends “fun” socks (side note: Ladies, I’m single). I thought she was a total loon until one laundry day I entered into the world of fun socks. Turns out my mom was right all along. Jazzy socks can really spruce up your day when things are looking grey (Feel free to put that quote on my gravestone.). I came across these HUF socks last weekend over soup dumplings in Flushing, Queens. My friend Dan had them on and he was all positive vibes. Was the positivity a product of the delicious dumplings? Was it the joy of leaving Portland for the weekend? Nope, I’m pretty sure it was the socks. All you Bay Area folk can check them out over at the HUF store. The rest of you can view them in cyberspace. Stay jazzy, San Francisco!
