Tomorrow marks the beginning of Detroit’s annual Movement festival, but it was announced today that attendees will be without the DJ stylings of minimal techno don Ricardo Villalobos, who Resident Advisor reports had problems obtaining his US work visa. Given that Villalobos has been notoriously reluctant to play in the US—his last Detroit appearance came in 2002—these developments are particularly disheartening. And Villalobos isn’t alone in his visa troubles—Germany’s Marcel Dettmann has also been forced to cancel an appearance at an off-Movement event in Detroit this weekend. Yet it’s not all bad news out of the Movement camp—in addition to headlining the opening night of the festival as Plastikman, Richie Hawtin will be replacing Villalobos at both the festival and at an off-site party at Voyage Royale.
