Teresa Ferreiro is a Phd Student, visual artist, DJ and event manager. She is doing a thesis about gender studies and the medium of comics and achieved a grant to do a research stay in University of Oxford. During her time there, she worked as an organizer and media manager for The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities.
She was born in a working class home, moved out of her family home when she was 18 to study Fine Art while working in clubs and bars. She started Djing and organizing party events for clubs at age 21. When she finished her master´s degree she moved to Los Angeles (USA) and worked as a cleaner in a hotel in Hollywood while learning English. During this time, she did an internship in La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Hollywood. Later, she moved to London and thanks to her savings studied at Sotheby’s and St.Martins, taking two courses on organizing events in the art and cultural market. In London she worked at Saatchi Gallery, Cartoon Museum of London and WAR Gallery, where she made a solo exhibition. At this time, she was publishing her comics and working as an independent illustrator.
Later, she became involved with the DJ collective Cheeky Soundsystem who now own their own club: Juno Café (London).
She moved back to Spain and started a collective named Ruido de Fondo that promotes and creates cultural events while promoting new artists.
Part of her family is interested in promoting and protecting the traditions of Galician folk music. However, the musical education she received at home was focused on Latin music. In London, she established relationships with people of different origins, many of them interested in electronic music. These experiences fueled a passion for music research and social rituals around music and dance. In her sets you can find everything from a historical salsa song about Joe Arroyo’s African rebellion against Spanish colonialists, and Celtic folk music with dark and experimental techno.
