cellphone friend is the moniker of Brookyln-based producer Emma McCann. She is influenced by early garage music and the sample-based nature of EDM trap circa the “golden age” of 2012.
“say normal, no sé normal” embodies the uncertainty of the COVID era, with dizzying vocal chops and undulating, reversed percussion. “No sé normal” translates from Spanish to “I don’t know normal”. The repetitive line throughout the track is a dialogue between voices: one demanding to SAY normal, one saying they know nothing like it. “Say normal, no sé normal” acknowledges that things aren’t the way they used to be. And maybe that’s okay, or just what we need for now.
