Usr/friendly present their debut album ‘This Is An Advertisement’, bringing forth the soundscapes of the technological consumer living in the suburbanized landscape of one’s mind.

‘This Is An Advertisement’ is the group’s first full release since changing their name from Oketo to usr/friendly. In 2016, members of the rising indie rock group Oketo finished a support tour with Hippo Campus and moved from Lincoln, Nebraska to Olympia, Washington to write their next album. The isolated, lush landscape of their new environment challenged early demos with more expressive, experimental, song structures, and various field recordings. Usr/friendly dances with the submission, and illumination of the shadow in ‘This Is An Advertisement’.

After demoing out all songs at their home in Olympia, usr/friendly brought the album to the studio where new and reworked versions of the recordings came to life at Silver Street Studios in Ashland, NE. The release of the album marks the end to 4 year process of writing and recording. With a wide array of texture & layers, “’This Is An Advertisement’ is a collaboration of woven symbols, a collage of sorts, a cross pollination & multi-textured maze of non-traditional song structures,” says songwriter & collaborator Steven DeLair.
