Early next month, Sandra Annan (a.k.a. 1five1) will release her debut self-titled EP via Bedroomer. 

Annan is a Toronto-based multi-instrumentalist and producer inspired by trip-hop acts such as Portishead and Massive Attack, and IDM pioneers Aphex Twin and Bjork, and although she touches on these inspirations, Annan’s music is full of distinct personality and style. Annan uses spacious atmospheres and organic instrumentation to great affect across 1five1—a creative process she describes as “world building”—seen in the brooding melancholia of “Mila,” the euphoric, dreamy beats of “Heaven,” and the pensive and introspective “Voodoo,” which Annan has graciously offered up as today’s XLR8R download. 1five1 is a commendable debut from an exciting new talent.
