Claiming Moscow as his hometown and London as his current residence, Lokiboi‘s sounds are a little hard to place. For the first minute of “Summer Groove,” it appears the young producer is preparing to take us into the kind of dark territory that would directly contradict the vibes evoked by the tune’s title—then things begin to take a turn. Bringing in filtered piano samples, funky bass, and crisp percussion, Lokiboi’s track completely moves away from the cold underground to the sun-drenched warmth of summertime house. By the time “Summer Groove” breaks down again, before pushing on to its final movement, we’re pretty much hooked, left only to fall even deeper into Lokiboi’s groove courtesy of the irresistible melodic glide that follows.
