A relative newcomer to the XLR8R pages, Snasen (pictured above) impressed us earlier this month with his textured, ethereal debut EP, Falling Upwards (which you can still stream in full here). Now, the Oslo-based producer has quickly appeared on our radar again, this time at the helm of a spacious and immersive remix of Montreal duo Solar Year‘s “Magic Idea.” Working the original’s vocals into stretched syllables and new pitches, Snasen builds a sluggish beat from a simple synth arpeggio, stuttering hats and kicks, and a bevy of tuned percussion that seems just barely attached to the tempo of the track. It makes for another intriguing piece of audio from Snasen indeed, and one with a touch more melody than we’d expect—not that we’re complaining.
