A mainstay of Modeselektor’s 50Weapons stable, German producer Phon.o has dropped off “Moonwalk,” the closing cut from his forthcoming Cracking Space Pt. 1 EP for the label. Featuring additional production work from San Francisco synth maestro Kit Clayton, “Moonwalk” wraps a sparse-but-forceful beat and a single vocal sample within ever-increasing layers of dark, enveloping synthesizers. Considering the density with which the track’s synthscapes have been rendered, it’s a wonder anything is able to break through the fog, but both Phon.o and Clayton are able to find the proper balance, resulting in a completely engrossing EP closer. Before the rest of the Cracking Space Pt. 1 EP lands on March 28, an appropriately cosmic-themed video has been made to accompany “Moonwalk,” which can be watched after the jump.
