ÈBONY, the guise of Toronto-based producers Sylvermayne and Jordan Gardner, focuses on “the futurist perspective of Detroit techno and the soulful melodies of Yoruba house.” Having released a track with Bicep and joining the legendary Legowelt for a show on NTS Radio, ÈBONY is slated to reveal its debut vinyl release—a split EP with R (a new project from Sylvermayne)—titled Real Truth on TLR’s new label Jericho One.
Ahead of the release, the burgeoning Canadian duo has decided to offer up a free download of its track “Against All Odds” via XLR8R. Using a wildly attractive, afrocentric rhythm as the centerpiece of the track, the piece gradually grows into a soulful mover with crisp piano chords and house music vocals that shine with an exemplary old-school attitude before shifting into a synth heavy jam with considerable atmosphere.
