Cubenx‘s latest album, Fractal City, will drop on October 13 via InFiné Music.

Fractal City is the first offering from the XLR8R favorite since 2015’s Elegiac and represents an evolution in the sound we associate with the moniker. Where his last few efforts pushed a beat-driven versatility, Fractal City is a collection of warped ambient ballads that live within a specific sonic environment, capturing Cubenx’s obsession for postmodern urban landscapes and the revelation of new perspectives on the city of Paris.

In support of the upcoming release, Cubenx has offered up album cut “Transect” as one of today’s XLR8R downloads. The track refers to the division of Paris into autonomous “fractal” zones and echoes the concept of “metro polarities,” which considers the city as a mosaic of social groups. Of the concept, Cubenx explains: “By cycling in the evening with a friend, we could get away from the city center to the suburbs of Paris. The contrasts are striking. You move from chic districts to bedroom communities, from industrial zones to improvised caravan camps. But there is a kind of energy in this heterogeneity that pushes you to always pedal further.”
