Though only 21, Montreal’s Valentin Stip has already put together an accomplished catalog. Having released two EPs via Nicolas Jaar’s Clown & Sunset label in recent years, Valentin Stip’s debut full-length Sigh sees its release today via Jaar’s newest imprint, Other People. Pulled from the eight-song, hour-long album is “Correlation,” a piece that moves with little urgency through a number of sonic landscapes. Though Stip does land on some interesting chord progressions and musical motifs throughout the track’s six-plus minute run, the heart of the production’s success lies in its details—its thoughtfully manipulated and subtly rearranged found sounds provide intriguing sonic layers as the tune’s engrossing textures shift and evolve at a gentle pace.
