Since launching in 2012 with a glitchy, busy release from Yoshiba 87 (something of a one-time moniker), Atomnation has made its presence known in a number of electronic music spheres. From chaotic IDM to patient ambient and emotive techno, the imprint traverses an emerging boundary between fundamentally sound and stylistically adventurous. In celebration of a vibrant, eclectic back catalogue, the Amsterdam-based label released Unfold, a 10-track compilation that showcased new work from Dauwd, Koett, and more.
Longtime label associate David Douglas and experimental hip-hop producer Young Montana? joined forces on track 8 of the release for a fascinating collaboration, available for today’s XLR8R download. With a fusion of Douglas’ dancefloor sensibilities and Montana’s affinity for soulful vocal flips, the track suggests a bright future for the ambitious label.
