Earlier this month, Istanbul-based label High Above the Ground released its first compilation, You Are Instanbul #1.
Featuring cuts from Koray T, Eren Erdol, Gadi Mitrani, and Coşkun Akmeriç feat. Soyut Boyut, the compilation was released to promote the sounds of Istanbul outside of Turkey and to build an awareness about the Turkish dance music scene. From Koray T’s deep and groovy “Colorful World” to Coşkun Akmeriç’s tripped out “Slow Burning,” which also features electronic jazz trio Soyut Boyut, You Are Instanbul #1 shows that the city houses an exciting underground and a collection of world-class producers.
In support of the release, the label has offered up Kompakt artist Gadi Mitrani’s “Drifter” as today’s XLR8R download. Like the other tracks on the release, “Drifter” is a groove-led slice of deep house, with Mitrani focusing on atmospheric pads and well-placed vocal chops to deliver his message.
