Grenier Meets Archie Pelago, the collaborative LP between San Francisco producer Grenier and Brooklyn trio Archie Pelago (artwork above), has long been in the works, but not much material from the record has surfaced. An extra cut from the LP’s sessions, “Microfiche Scanning” offers a glimpse of the upcoming album (scheduled for release on May 12), as it sees the artists moving away from the dancefloor and into a more ambient and cerebral realm. Reportedly recorded in San Francisco, the track has traces of a hazy Bay Area morning, complete with Chinese Erhu-like violin playing, chunky percussive marimbas, and bustling live percussion.
