While XLR8R took a short break to celebrate the holidays last week, Brooklyn label Styles Upon Styles quietly dropped Pray Winter Yields Wisdom, a nine-track compilation offering new productions from the likes of Clay Wilson, Best Available Technology, and others for download. Appearing early in the tracklist is “Operation (Part 2),” an atonal, hardware-obsessed cut from Melbourne producer Kloke. The six-minute standout comes off essentially like a jam session, one where crisp arpeggios and gurgling synth tones are the subjects of restless manipulation, as the producer slowly turns each sound source into something pleasantly difficult to wrap one’s head around.
