Australia’s Mushroom Group is set to launch its first electronic music imprint, Soothsayer. The label will aim to showcase Australia’s rising talent, from left-field house to experimental pop and everything in between. To kick things off, on December 2, Soothsayer will drop Sam Weston‘s Never Been In Love EP; with Sydney XLR8R alum Dro Carey (a.k.a. Tuff Sherm) and Melbourne pop duo ALTA rounding out the label’s inaugural signings.
The first taste of Never Been In Love arrived late last month when Weston—who is also one-half of Alba—dropped “Don’t Save Face,” the record’s brilliant b-side. In the weeks following, Australia’s premier radio stations picked up on the track and it’s been on high rotation since. To further entice listeners the world over, Weston and Soothsayer have offered up “Don’t Save Face” as today’s XLR8R download. Across the track’s 13-minute run, Weston demonstrates his knack for crafting effortless and catchy house hooks; and, with its loose and swinging feel-good nature, obvious parallels could be drawn to artists such as Leon Vynehall and Motor City Drum Ensemble.
You can download “Don’t Save Face” via WeTransfer below, along with a stream and the EP’s next single. Ahead of the December 2 release date, you can pre-order Never Been In Love via Juno.
