Last month, anonymous UK producer Touch shared his/her debut work, “Lost,” an ambient and relatively subdued affair. Today, Touch returns with a far more upbeat production, “Scent.” Unlike the last one, which took an underwater, inside-out approach to UK bass, “Scent” engages the genre’s tropes head on. For five-and-a-half minutes, the track cruises as an 808 kit slides through sparse bass and string stabs, the song’s smart production seemingly taken out of the book of an artist like Blawan. And then there’s the vocal line, which at first appears to be obnoxious and crude, but after repeated listens reveals a more complex, captivating quality under its heavy layers of processing.
