Over the past year or so, the electronic-music landscape has been flooded with juke and footwork, as producers around the globe have been lured in by the breakneck beats of the Chicago-reared sound. In all honesty, most of the juke and footwork making the rounds isn’t particularly good, but a few outposts have proven themselves reliable, including the Paris-based Booty Call imprint. Earlier this week, the label released its latest salvo, the Equalized EP (artwork above) from young Windy City producer EQ Why. “What You Do” is the opening cut from the seven-track effort—which, incidentally, can be streamed in full after the jump—and it creates a herky-jerky rhythm by combining standard-issue juke percussion with an interestingly arranged assault of chopped organ, string, and vocal samples, all of which sound like they were lifted from a soulful ’70s gem.
