After writing two records with Alessio Natalizia as Walls and releasing them via Kompakt, Sam Willis is gearing up to embark on a solo project. His debut full-length, Winterval, will arrive November 5 via London record hub Half Machine, and the producer has offered up the title track as a taste test. “Winterval” is a winding, eight-minute-long slow burner that combines the rich, textural atmospherics of ambient music with a lightly jacking house beat that keeps the tune moving forward. As the song unfurls, a layer of warm low end sets in and vague disembodied cries appear momentarily in the mix. Willis, a co-leader of the DJ team ALLEZ-ALLEZ, has released solo productions on labels like Rekids and RVNG, but the forthcoming Winterval will be his most extensive solitary endeavor to date.
