After delivering an exceptional debut LP just before 2013 came to a close, Manchester duo Akkord (a.k.a. Synkro and Indigo) have announced plans to return to the Houndstooth label next month with an EP of even “darker, moodier sounds.”
Simply titled HTH020, Akkord’s forthcoming effort will offer four new tracks which the label describes as “pairing monumental low-end frequencies with surgically precise production,” and as coming “centered around clammy, ominous atmospheres, underpinned by stomping beats and descending basslines.” Serving as a teaser for the upcoming effort, “Continuum” finds the UK pair leaving lots of open space for cold atmospherics between an undulating bass drone and a mutating series of sparse rhythms. That track can be streamed in full below before Akkord’s HTH020 EP sees an official release on June 16.
