Over the years, American producer Kevin McHugh has operated under dual (and partially anonymous) aliases. As Ambivalent, his output has largely seen release via Richie Hawtin’s Minus label, while his hardware-built, acid-leaning productions as LA-4A have been allied with Delft, where he serves as label head. As Resident Advisor reports, however, the now Berlin-based producer is poised to bring these discursive identities together with the release of Red Ones, his debut EP for Delft as Ambivalent. He’s also announced the launch of his own label, Valence, which he’ll inaugurate with an EP of “warehouse-style techno” in the near future. (Belgian producer GoldFFinch has been tapped for its second release.)
Red Ones (tracklist below) is due out via Delft on September 22, and the label’s most recent issue—featuring McHugh as LA-4A alongside West Coast producer Matrixxman—is available to stream below.
