UK bass figurehead Joy Orbison is the latest artist to be tapped for a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix. Premiering this past Saturday, Orbison’s submission features unreleased sounds from Pearson Sound and James Blake, upcoming material from his own Hinge Finger label that he operates jointly with Will Bankhead, and even a surprise track produced by the artist himself. The mix can be streamed in full here, where a tracklist can also be found.
In a somewhat rare occurrence, Objekt (pictured above) also posted up a mix over the weekend from his recent set at Welsh festival Freerotation. The Berlin-based producer reportedly chose to upload the 90-minute recording because he says it “might have been the most fun I can remember ever having as a DJ.” Listeners are invited to picture the 19th-century manor that hosts the festival, complete with a hanging chandelier, massive soundsystem, sweltering 40 degree room, and “lots of sweaty people having The Best Weekend Ever.” While no tracklist has been provided, the mix is as uncompromising as we’ve come to expect from the singular artist, and can be streamed and downloaded below.
