Mickey Pearce is the latest in a recent flood of producers to remix NYC duo Dat Oven’s “Icy Lake.” Originally released in 1998, the record was jointly reissued by sister labels Night Slugs and Fade to Mind in the spring of this year along with reworks by the likes of L-Vis 1990, Total Freedom, and DJ Rashad & NA (of Nguzunguzu). In this latest version, Pearce hones in on the original’s hypnotic, chiming melody, stripping it back even further while splicing in sharp percussion segments that showcase the UK producer’s singular drum-programming skills.
