FatCat’s pioneering imprint 130701 is approaching its 15th anniversary, set to take place on July 15 with Eleven into Fifteen: a 130701 Compilation.
In the lead-up to the anniversary, an expanded double-vinyl reissue of Hauschka’s debut album for 130701, Room To Expand, was released as a Record Store Day exclusive in April and on July 8, the album will also see a digital release.
Room To Expand was originally released in February 2007 as a twelve-track CD-only album from the then little known Dusseldorf–based pianist and composer Volker Bertelmann (a.k.a. Hauschka). The album, along with his notoriously jaw-dropping live show, laid the framework for the growth of his career. The re-release will see the addition of six previously unheard tracks, recorded around the same time as the original album, that now perfectly compliment and extend Room To Expand—as well as offering a further glimpse into this period of his creative evolution.
To support the July 8 release, Hauschka and 130701 have provided XLR8R with streams of all six additional cuts, which you can hear via the playlist above.
