When it comes to the Hammer of the Gods, everybody wants to steal a little thunder. I’m talking about turning the iPhone/iPod Touch into a portable drum machine, a market originated by Intua’s BeatMaker and now entered by IK Multimedia with the debut of the GrooveMaker modules. A port of an existing product from the Italian audio software developer, GrooveMaker offers up eight stereo tracks and hundreds of loops for creatingly instant remixes. It’s a real-time, drag-and-drop composition tool offering a melodic and rhythmic library of drums, bass, bass drums, lines, pads, percussion, and effects to play, mix, and randomize. There’s save/recall so you can edit on the go, and after you’ve panned and tempo-tweaked your tracks, you can export them to your laptop/desktop as high-quality WAV files (WiFi required). Organized, like iZotope’s initial iDrum applications, into genres, GrooveMaker currently offers three editions: Club, including 189 loops (130-135-145 BPM) for $4.99/€3.99; Hip-Hop, including 315 loops (80-85-90-100 bpm) for $9.99/€7.99; and House, including 315 loops (120-123-125-127 bpm) for $9.99/€7.99. Additionally, a fully functional free edition allows you to preview 125 House and Hip-Hop loops (78-125 bpm). Go put a little rockit in your pocket.
