After dropping his Punch Drunk debut (“We Used To” b/w “Helter Skelter”) earlier this year, low end-obsessed Brtisol resident Kahn returns to the label with two new tracks of heavy, brooding bass. The forthcoming 12″ includes a pair of tracks, each showcasing a quite different aspect of Kahn’s production. A-side “Illy” is a synth-heavy outing complete with ascending arpeggios and layers of vocoded voice, while b-side “Tehran” serves as a stripped-back exercise in which a chopped Middle Eastern sample moves in tandem with a punishing rhythm. Of course, the thread that holds them all together is Kahn’s knack for impeccably crafted, step-worthy drum patterns, and—let us not forget—healthy amounts of rumbling bass. The “Illy” b/w “Tehran” single won’t see a release until October 17, but for now you can stream clips of both sides and check the artwork below.
