Tyondai Braxton Announces New Album, Shares Track
The former Battles frontman will release 'HIVE1' via Nonesuch this spring.
Six years have passed since Tyondai Braxton released Central Market, his first solo LP after leaving the experimental rock group Battles. Now, Braxton has finally shared details of a follow-up, HIVE1, which will see the artist transition from longtime label home Warp to the Nonesuch imprint. Based on performances at New York’s Guggenheim Museum, the Sydney Opera House, the MONA FOMA festival in Tasmania, and London’s Barbican Centre, the album was originally an ensemble piece and architectural installation titled HIVE, which has now been reinterpreted and reprocessed to fit into an album format.
To celebrate the announcement, Braxton has shared the LP’s closing cut, “Scout1”, a long-form composition that adopts ancient rhythms on futuristic hardware. Leading up to the LP, Braxton will also be playing a three-day “HIVE Residency” at Knoxville’s Museum of Art on March 27, 28, and 29. Nonesuch will release HIVE1 on May 12; until then, “Scout1” can be found below, along with the upcoming record’s full tracklist.
