Before the longstanding production duo Simian Mobile Disco unveils its new live show to the first North American audience on September 1 at FYF Fest, we’re treated to a suitable dark music video for “Species Out of Control,” one of the excellent cuts lifted from James Ford’s and James Shaw’s XLR8R Pick’d Unpatterns LP. What initially looks like headlights racing down a dark road (à la David Lynch’s Lost Highway) gradually morphs into something more akin to a patently geometric DMT hallucination or maybe an alternate version of 2001: A Space Odyssey‘s time-travel scene. It’s yet another mind-bending visual piece that matches seamlessly with Simian Mobile Disco’s uniquely crafted and bubbling dance music.
