Ghislain Poirier “Go Ballistic (WILDLIFE Re-Rub)”

Switzerland-based producer and remixer WILDLIFE got ahold of this track—which originally appeared on Ghislain Poirier‘s No Ground Under album—and the resulting remix is a cross between something fit for dark, dirty clubs and some strange video game.

Mr. Oizo Lambs Anger

While the electro-hipster set may worship at the altar of Justice, let the record show that another French artist has been serving up hard-edged electro bangers for more than a decade. 1999’s “Flat Beat” may have put Mr. Oizo on the international dance map, but Lambs Anger shows that the man has not lost a step. Blasting through 17 tracks in 44 minutes, Oizo occasionally cranks the distortion knob like his Ed Banger brethren (“Positif,” “Erreur Jean”), but he’s just as effective when he veers from the now-standard electro script. “Cut Dick” features a bouncing bassline and funky horn riff, “Jo” is a chopped-up disco exercise, and “Bruce Willis Is Dead” and “Gay Dentists” celebrate old-school rave and hardcore.

Telepathe: Seeing into the Future

Busy Gangnes and Melissa Livaudais, the two best friends and ex-GFs that comprise Brooklyn band Telepathe, have more than a psychic connection with one another. But do they have what it takes to predict the future of music? We took their name to heart and had them tell us what they think will be hot in ’09.

Lauren Flax
She has a single coming out called “You’ve Changed,” and it’s totally amazing. She put it together while traveling on planes, and the vocals are done by Sia and recorded in her bedroom. Flax is hands-down
one of our favorite producers.

Gloria Maximo
This is a still from Gloria’s video Yemen Wed, directed with Jonathon Turner.

Supreeme
They’re some hot-ass rappers/producers from Atlanta. These guys put out a mixtape called Silver Medallion, and we can’t wait for their full-length this year.

Niki Roberton
Niki is the owner of IAMSOUND Records. We noticed that there aren’t too many women in the record label industry. WTF? We found one and we love her!

Shannon Funchess (a.k.a Two Tear)
The most incredibly talented girl in the game that we know. This girl can sing her fucking ass off. She did some singing on the Telepathe record too, and is working on a solo record with Gerard Smith from TVOTR. Can’t fucking wait.

P.O.S Never Better

Minneapolis MC P.O.S (of Doomtree) sincerely gives a damn about the world around him, but thankfully does so without getting preachy. On his third solo shot, Never Better, this punk rock-minded rhymer drops down-to-earth joints that were written mainly while he was in a moving car. With this observational approach, P.O.S shares narratives with a purpose (“Been Afraid”) and raps about conquering everyday strife (“Goodbye”). While you can easily get caught up in his reassuring rhymes, his mostly self-produced beats are usually just as strong. Sometimes reflecting a hazy rock influence and other times sticking to minimalist boom-bap, P.O.S has learned to broaden his sound more than ever.

Restiform Remix Contest Winners

Freak-hop outfit Restiform Bodies went a little remix crazy at the end of last year, putting tracks off their TV Loves You Back album in the hands of other producers, then hosting a remix contest for fans.

Anticon officially announced winners for the latter today. Accolades (not to mention inclusion on a Restiform Bodies single and some free vinyl) go to the following:

Brian E, for his warped disco reworking of “Foul.”

Rx, for his bassy take on “Consumer Culture Wave.”

Hear the tracks over at the Restiform Remixes site.

Marc Houle Kicks Off Minus Podcast Series

We know, it’s hard to tear oneself away from all the future-blap happening over at the XLR8R podcast, but we’re not above giving props to others when they’re due. Which is why we’re pointing readers to the Minus site, currently bearing the announcement that Richie Hawtin and Co have launched their own podcast series.

From the Minus site:

“In addition to our video podcast, we are happy to announce the first edition of our Minus Music Podcast. At the end of each month you will find a new episode, done by one of our artists, staff members, or close friends of the label.”

Marc Houle kicks things off. All podcasts will be enhanced and available via RSS or by these guys.

Throbbing Gristle Announces U.S. Tour

A band going on hiatus is one thing, but when a group returns after nearly 30 years off the radar, it’s bound to stir things up. British industrial four-piece Throbbing Gristle has done just that in recent years, first by reuniting in 2004 to release new material, and now by announcing its first U.S. tour since 1981.

The extremely small handful of dates includes an appearance at this year’s Coachella Festival, as well as first-ever performances in Chicago and New York, where the boys swill play not one, but two sets, both of which will begin with a new live soundtrack to Derek Jarman’s film, In the Shadow of the Sun.

And of course, for all the schwag junkies out there, a special TG USA 2009 merchandise line will be available for purchase at the shows. This includes a new album, a t-shirt specific to each event, and an intriguing item called the Tour Enamel Badge.

Dates
04/16 Brooklyn, NY – Masonic Hall
04/19 Indio, CA – Coachella
04/21 Los Angeles, CA – UCLA
04/23 San Francisco, CA – Grand Regency Ballroom
04/25 Chicago, IL – Ephiphany Episcopal
