Now that the calendar has flipped to November, we’re assuming that many of our readers (at least the ones in the Northern hemisphere) are unpacking their winter coats and bracing themselves for winter. And while there’s little that XLR8R can do to affect the weather and the changing seasons, we can do our best to provide some sunny musical moments, and that’s exactly what’s been delivered in this week’s podcast from Tiger & Woods. Although officially confirmed biographical information about the semi-anonymous duo is in short supply, the Running Back-affiliated pair has nonetheless been responsible for an excellent series of upbeat, edit-centric house and disco releases over the past few years. This week, the two producers will be making a “homecoming” of sorts (at least if the strong hints that Tiger & Woods hail from Italy are to be believed) by performing at the annual Club to Club festival in Turin. Even though the forecast isn’t calling for lots of sunshine, it’s a safe bet that the pair will warm things up with its set on Saturday night; to commemorate the occasion, Larry Tiger and David Woods have also put together this exclusive mix.
As anyone familiar with Tiger & Woods’ discography might expect, the podcast is simultaneously heavy on both the duo’s own material and overlooked dance gems from decades gone by. Re-editing vintage cuts is what Tiger & Woods do best, and as such, the podcast includes a number of the pair’s “private edits.” That being said, many of these reworks are effectively complete transformations of the source material, as the duo can always be counted upon to do a lot more than quantize drum patterns and cut out extraneous vocal asides. There may be countless nods to the golden days of disco, funk, boogie, and more, but the music here is fresh and, most importantly, fun. We can certainly think of less entertaining ways to raise the temperature a few degrees.
