With two concurrent releases, Kate Wax squeezes new life from last year’s excellent debut, Reflections of the Dark Heat. Collection I is a curious afterthought, a mere reshuffling of the original album’s tracks with unreleased material. The real goods come with Collection II, a stellar remix package that sees Wax’s intensely weird electro machinations warmed up by fellow heavy-hitters. Ellen Allien & Apparat patch the fractures in the foreboding “Beetles & Spider,” buoying Wax’s icy soprano with a metallic, beach-ball bounce. Meanwhile, her PJ Harvey screech on “Killing Your Ghost” is a lynchpin for labelmate St. Plomb’s deep-house grooves.
