“Magic Doors,” the third single off Portishead‘s Third, is a dizzying, emotional collage where a radar-tracking device at the video’s beginning hones in on a pulsing, rhythmic blue solar system of noise. Once Beth Gibbons’ trademark vocals creep in, this figure transforms into a fast-paced, grainy, psychedelic reel, juxtaposing what appear to be home videos with images of robots, chalk-board scribbles, a banana, and even Gibbons herself–looking decidedly preoccupied.
