Peruvian duo Dengue Dengue Dengue! pride themselves on crafting a unique brand of “psychedelic cumbia” which incorporates streaks of zouk bass, dub, and the likes into its productions. Having appeared as part of the Enchufada label’s ongoing Upper Cuts series last year, Dengue Dengue Dengue! will release its first proper effort for the label next week (March 17, to be exact). Pulled from the outfit’s upcoming Serpiente Dorada EP, “Banana” finds Dengue Dengue Dengue! cutting up its rhythms with space-age FX and bits of quirky melodies. The tune takes a turn for more psychedelic territory around the two-minute mark, when a ghostly bell melody joins the proceedings and rides out the bouncing production until it reaches its stripped-down conclusion.
