Perhaps we’re just getting old, but it seems like each successive crop of beatmakers—particularly those hailing from the UK—is younger than the last. The latest example is 17-year-old Alfie, whose rich and subtly soulful creations sound more like the work of a house and techno veteran than something the average teenager would cook up. On July 16, he’ll be dropping a new single, “Uncomfortably Numb” b/w “About Midday,” via the Blah Blah Blah imprint. Those cuts can be previewed after the jump, but in the meantime, Alfie has offered up “Block19,” a similarly refined tune that combines a mellow house groove with some jacking synth sounds and silky vocal bits. Alfie may be a young artist, but if he keeps making tracks that sound like this, the kid won’t have to worry about people focusing on his age for much longer.
